600+

Youth volunteers, nonprofit officers and engaged adults–all girls and young women–advocating for EmpowerHer’s mission and our initiative.

We are the world’s largest youth-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the education of underprivileged girls in rural areas across the globe. Our approach is two-pronged: our chapters in the US spread awareness and advocate for this issue through holding workshops, teaching curriculum, and volunteering, where we distribute that knowledge and materials to girls in need.

“Making education a right, not a privilege.”

Meet our founder, Ananya Akkaraju!

ananya akkaraju iqc picture

Ananya Akkaraju is the founder of EmpowerHer Education. As a passionate activist for social justice issues, she spends her time lobbying for education policy at her state’s capitol and empowering young women in countries like India, Kenya and Uganda through her nonprofit. Ananya’s connection to women’s education is deeply personal, and she hopes to combat this social justice issue in any way she can. What began as a small club where she educated young girls in her community grew to an international 501(c)(3) organization that has partnered with UN-funded and Peace Corps-backed organizations in various countries.

Ananya and EmpowerHer have been featured in Dublin Patch and The Independent. EmpowerHer has been granted more than $5,000 USD in funds to continue its operations, and is currently hosting a book drive with donation centers across the country to support the education of girls in African and Indian rural villages. To connect with Ananya, feel free to email her at akkarajuananya@gmail.com.
